House+Co

Last night I had dinner at House+Co located in Bangsar Shopping Centre. On first glance, House+Co seems to be a household store selling plates to cushion covers but located at the back they have a small cafe themed with their own household products on sale.

House+Co: Bangsar Shopping Centre

The menu was quite interesting with quite a selection of local delights, salads, to pastas. Even their drinks menu was well populated with non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages ranging from Indian lassi, South American beers to European beers. There was really no real way to distinguish whether House+Co specialized in local or foreign cuisine. So… when given so many choices, one would normally tend to ask the floor manager what dishes were their specialty, and so I was pointed to the local cuisines… followed by the pastas… then the salads… then the drinks menu… Clearly they were as confused about the menu as me. So I decided to try their Nasi Lemak Beef Rendang, recommended by a friend who was accompanying me to dinner.

Nasi Lemak Beef Rendang, House+Co

I was genuinely surprised by their nasi lemak. Here they used nasi kerabu instead of white rice or pandan rice, which really matched well with the dish. The sambal and chilli were seperated, the sambal being slightly sweetish and allowed for me to mix the dish to my desired spiciness –  a good and thoughtful touch! The beef rendang was tender and flavorful as well. All of which were presented well on a giant plate. So despite being quite overpriced at rm 21, this nasi lemak does live up to local standards and works well.

With my hunger sated, I then went on to dessert which came in the form of a Chilled Mars Bar Cake – I had other choices but this looks more interesting. What could I say? Mars Bars works as a cake, and for rm 12, it definitely was an expensive mars bar.

So as a conclusion, this cafe cum household shop, or the opposite does make a good destination for a delicious meal with a cozy and quaint environment. However be ready for the hefty bill which I think is more tailored for people with higher spending potential. My personal recommendation:- Try it out!

Horrible Bosses

So what did I do with my extra 2 complimentary tickets courtesy of Nuffnang and TGV cinemas? I decided to watch Horrible Bosses, a comedy movie with a college friend. Another choice in the cinema was Zoolander but, somehow this appealed more on the day.

If you liked Dumb & Dumber, then this movie would be Dumb, Dumber and Dumbest. It is about 3 friends who so happens all have bosses who are in one sense or another ‘crazy’… and so over a few pints of beer they decided that it would be best to do away with them by murder. The movie is so hilarious at many points that even the cinema crowd were laughing out load so this is a definite must watch!

Unfortunately, I do have to advise watching this movie in Malaysian cinemas due to their censoring policies… many many many parts and portions of the movie were filtered out especially early on from words (yes! movie does contain mild sexual references) and visuals (yes! jennifer aniston is quite hot). Thats’ no good, so for best viewing do watch this in a country with looser censoring policies.

Conan The Barbarian

Some might not know who Conan The Barbarian is, but this barbarian warrior is very popular figure in early comics which in my opinion gave the barbarian class in games today its cult like stature.

The recently released movie that portrays Conan was true to the barbaric wreckage from brawn and brute force that so often defines what a barbarian is. This time round, I utilized 2 of the 4 complimentary cinema tickets from Nuffnang and TGV.

The movie contains a lot of blood and gore scenes and may not be quite suitable for those not too comfortable with guts and beheading. Despite this, the slash and smash nature of the movie was very interesting and not monotonous in nature with typical comedic acts and puns by the barbarian himself – puns that shows barbarians are indeed more brawn muscles than brain muscles!

This was a very exciting show and the actors did manage to portray a world of might and magic, without being too superficial. The ladies too were quite beautiful, even the evil one. Guys go watch this movie!
